By car A2 Motorway, take “Lugano Sud “ exit and follow the signs to Lugano “centro”, driving by the lake. After passing the casino (on your left) and Palazzo dei Congressi (on the right), turn right on viale Cattaneo. After 50-100 metres, at the sign “Università” turn left in via Pasquale Lucchini and proceed until you find yourself in front of the main University building. A2 Motorway, take “Lugano Nord” exit and follow the signals for Lugano “centro”. After the underpass of the railway station keep on the left lane, following the signs for “Università” until you reach via Giuseppe Buffi and the University.
By train From Lugano railway station (www.ffs.ch), walk down to the city centre or take the funicular, then follow the street with porticoes until you reach the main bus station. Take either bus no. 5 Viganello (get off at the stop “Ospedale italiano”) or no. 3 Pregassona (stop “Sacro Cuore”). Both stops are at a minute’s walk from USI. From the station, you can reach the University also on foot in 20-25 minutes. Once you get to the city centre, walk straight on via Pretorio (which then becomes viale Franscini) until you reach via Giuseppe Buffi: turn right and proceed to the University.
By airplane Lugano airport is in Agno (about 6 km from Lugano city centre). It offers direct flights to the main Swiss and European towns (www.lugano-airport.ch). Airports Milano Malpensa, Milano Linate and Bergamo are 60-100 km from Lugano and can be reached by shuttle bus (www.malpensaexpress.ch – info only in Italian, www.starstation.ch – info only in Italian, www.sea-aeroportimilano.it/en) or by train. The closest Swiss international airport is Zürich-Kloten, about 3 hours by train from Lugano.
